STRINGS SYLLABUS, MACARTHUR DISTRICT EISTEDDFOD, 2008.

3) Official Accompanist: Mr Malcolm Tapscott 9825 2890 / 0418 620 704 will be available. Please call early to arrange rehearsals prior to the competition. Competitors are welcome to bring their own accompanist, Normal Venue Entry Fees apply.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO REHEARSAL TIME ALLOCATED DURING THE EISTEDDFOD.

The official accompanist will only be available if specifically requested on the entry form. If you do not have a rehearsal with Mr Tapscott please make sure that a copy of ALL music is forwarded to him prior to the event so that he can practice.
5) Competitors MUST NOT perform the same piece in more than one section.
6) All music is own choice.
7) A copy of the score must be available for the adjudicator – it is necessary to number the first bar of every line of music.
8) Music stands will be provided for the use of competitors.
9) Photocopies for the adjudicator will not be returned in compliance with copyright laws. All performances (including the accompanist’s copy) should be the original score or a certified copy if the original is no longer available.

11) Championships: Competitors in the championships must enter and compete in at least two other sections of their chosen age group.

Section 601: MACPAS STRINGS AWARD
Entry fee: $30
1st prize: $600; 2nd prize: $300; 3rd prize: $100
Dress:
Formal – this will apply to the heats this year and will be considered in the overall presentation.
Rules:
1.
 Competitors will be required to prepare three (3) pieces for this section – all pieces are own choice and must contrast in style. Two pieces are to be played in the heats, with the third one to be performed at the finals afternoon. All pieces should be played from memory for this award. Time limit for the heats: 15 minutes; 8 minutes for the Finals.
2. Previous 1st prize winners are not eligible to compete in this award for two consecutive years.
3. The number of finalists will be at the adjudicator’s discretion.
4. Competitors must enter and compete in at least two other sections plus their appropriate Age Championship in order to qualify.
5. The Finals will be held on Sunday 2nd November, 2008.
6. NB: There is no age restriction for this award – the only restriction is the one noted in point number 2.
7. Unless otherwise stipulated, sections are open to both bowed and plucked stringed instruments.

CHAMPIONSHIPS – To Be Eligible, All Competitors Must Enter and Compete In Two Solo Sections Of Their Chosen Age Group.
At this stage the championships will be for both bowed and plucked instruments.
If there are sufficient numbers of competitors, consideration will be given to separating the instruments.

640: Junior Championship
12 years & under
Time limit:
6 minutes 1st prize: $40 plus trophy.
One piece required.

641: Intermediate Championship
16 years & under
Time limit:
10 minutes 1st prize: $60 plus trophy.
One piece required

642: Open Championship
Time limit:
12 minutes 1st prize: $100 plus trophy.
Two pieces required, must be contrasting in style.

679: AUSTRALIAN MUSICIANS ACADEMY AWARD
A special  Award has been made by the Austrlian Musicians Academy for the best performance of any movement of the J.S.Bach works for Solo Violin or Cello, including viola adaptations.
The winner would be offered the opportunity to perform at the Academy’s Christmas Concert.
To be awarded at the Adjudicators Discretion
